  • “Not everyone is as easily brainwashed as you are and people are becoming more educated unlike you. That is the reason religion is becoming obsolete.”

    WOW.
    I MEAN, WOW!
Did ever cross your “educated” mind that you may actually be brainwashed to believe that you, in fact, are “educated”?
ACCORDING TO WHOM? Some liberal university, no doubt. And “educated” according to what metric?
Religious and spiritual wisdom has been with us since the first sentient life form squinted in wonder and awe at the world about him.
Education is no more, or less, a fashion of “brainwashing” than religion, if you take a bit of time to think about it with critical discernment.
“Educated” pfft. Educated to believe in the dogma of a bunch of ivory tower dwelling academics as opposed to divine inspiration and enlightenment.
Get over yourself and your peers.

    Rant over,

  • Not sure what happened in the beginning… should have read “From The Chronicle”

P.S I found it worthwhile to look through the comments related to this topic. Some actual honest and vigorous debate.

  • A thoroughly rom “The Chronicle” – http://www.chronicle.com:

“Last night I learned that Naomi Schaefer Riley has been fired by The Chronicle of Higher Education from her position as one of the contributors on the Brainstorm blog. It was a poor decision by The Chronicle‘s editors, one of whom, Liz McMillen, explains it in “A Note to Readers.” Ms. McMillen also apologizes “for the distress these incidents have caused our readers.” As it happens, I had just drafted for Innovations a short essay which among other things praised The Chronicle’s editors for not giving in to demands that Riley be fired.

The Chronicle’s change of heart took me greatly by surprise. As a writer whose contributions to these pages have often been assailed, I’ve come to trust that The Chronicle is pretty sturdy in its defense of the principle that dissenters from academe’s typical left-wing orthodoxies should be heard, and that dialogue–even if sometimes caustic–is better than enforced silence.

So my first response is personal: I feel less sure that The Chronicle will champion that principle the next time I address a controversial topic. If someone mounts a campaign of vilification against me, will I too be dismissed? There are and never were any guarantees against that happening, but the danger seems a lot greater. Whatever else Riley’s dismissal means, it communicates to the mob that The Chronicle is susceptible to its pressure tactics. That guarantees one thing: that it

  • I see in Ms. Schaefer Riley what could be a VERY good hire for The Blaze, or perhaps somewhere in Glenn’s organization. She seems to be, at the very least, a liberal that I could respect.
Arguing intellectually is a wrinkled and dessicated fruit borne on a tree with diseased roots nowadays.
Even sadder that “The Chronicle of Higher Education” collapsed like a house of cards in a maelstrom.
I think I’ve hit my cheesy simile and metaphor limit for the day.

  • That’s funny, and the “tee hee” is even funnier. Just tickled me for some reason…

  • SEA-
That was my concern as well. Here in Michigan, I believe that that approach (shooting at someone’s back) would have yielded at the very least, a good close look at my intentions…
The mere fact that there is an intruder in your home SHOULD BE grounds enough for lethal defense.

  • “Precious Rock” – Brilliant!
    Sadly, probably about right.

  • As a lifetime Tigers fan, I can’t understand why we got this guy. His older brother, Damon, was a problem child for us years back, divisive in the clubhouse etc. Apparently the bat Delmon threw at an umpire a few years bat didn’t enter into the equation.
    Dumb.

  • AIDAN-
GREAT post! Very enjoyable info about your “arrangement”!

  • Does anyone have a clue as to what may have prompted this?
