  • Have You Seen the Attention-Grabbing New TIME Cover?

    In reply to Sugabee.

I totally agree with you! I also feel there needs to be common courtesy in public as well. My son was 15 months when he decided to give it up, but I never had a problem with nursing in public – it really became an at-home, comfort kind of thing; like when he bumped his head or needed some quiet time with me. If everyone practices courtesy toward their fellow man, you would not see images like this cover.

  • Okay, well- I’m on the fence about this. I consider this cover to be in poor taste because it exploits the mother/child bond for money, and it is mildly pornographic because our society considers breasts to be mainly sexual instead of what they are mostly intended for. In most other cultures, breastfeeding beyond 1 year is the norm, not the exception. I did not nurse my children this long, and I probably wouldn’t just because of the reactions I would get – but from a mother’s point of view, this is NOT pedophaelia! He is – according to the article- her real son, and he is 3 years old, not 7! BUT, putting that on the cover of a magazine for the whole world to see is in poor taste and decorum.

  • @ BIGAL78: God is loving; The Bible does not say to hate homosexuals, it says to hate the sin of ACTING upon one’s homosexuality. Just as it is a sin to act on one’s heterosexuality if you are not within the sacrament of marriage – there is nothing wrong with sex, it’s how you act on it. There are many pleasurable things He has given us in this world, but if we make them into idols, then it takes away from our glorifying God (“for the LOVE of money is the root of evil”). Most Christian religions will tell you in their teaching that it is not the homosexual their religion “hates”, but the acting out their lifestyle that is sinful. And, any way you cut it, Mr. Savage was wrong- it was a roomful of school-aged children who were a captive audience, and he was supposed to be speaking on anti-bullying – not being a bully to people he didn’t agree with. Mr. Savage definitely lived up to his name on this one.

  • @ CAVALLO: You have the most succinct and poetic answer to all of this. I love you.

  • @ Lloyd: My hope is that your forgot to use your Sarcasm Face when posting such drivel about the Catholic Church. If that were the actual case, there’d be no room to build new community gardens, food pantries for the poor, and social services offices for all the people they help in the outlying area.

  • Encinom/Moncine: Despite what you espouse through your own brand of bigotry against the Church, the vast majority of Catholics are in communion with the Pope and the Bishops who teach the true doctrine of the faith – NOT the watered-down, non-subsidiarity oriented ‘social justice’ that is spewed by those orders of religious which have spent decades attempting to do the exact same thing within the walls of the Church that progressives are trying to do to our country. B16 is simply declaring that if these religious wish to remain Catholic, they need to start teaching/preaching the Church’s doctrine- not what they WISH was doctrine. If they don’t like it, they can leave! This is EXACTLY what happened to the Episcopal church over the last 30 years, and look how their numbers have declined – because the hierarchy was not listening to its faithful and CHANGING doctrine into pro-feminist, pro-practicing homosexual, all-inclusive and no consequences teachings. They ended up reaping what they sowed. The Church does not change; the people are the ones who walk away from her.

  • @VANCE: More disinformation on your part. There is ample evidence that shows that Pope Pius XII, even before he became Pope, rallied people against the Nazi regime. The then-current Pope, Pius I, wrote an entire encyclical (public letter, to you) “Mit Brennender Sorge” (1937), to condemn them. Pius II carried on once he rose to the papacy and worked tirelessly behind the scene to save as many Jews as possible. The fact that clergy all over Europe were being arrested and killed due to helping the Jews escape made it very difficult for him to speak openly against the Nazis. So, please, do your research instead of using anti-Catholic rhetoric inspired by the likes of Jack Chick before opening your mouth.

  • Yes, unfortunately, some Catholics and a lot of non-Catholics do not understand the Church’s doctrine of subsidiarity, wherein needs should be met at the LOWEST common denominator (i.e., immediate family first, then extended family, then parish, then community, then city, then state, then government) FIRST.

  • Thank you for your comments. :)
