  • Greatest of this era… I still think Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest of all time. Ray hit like a light heavyweight, and had over 190 fights… Tape from the late 40′s is kinda scarce which is a shame because the old timers say he was just absolutely devestating in those years. Like you, I feel priviledged to have been a fan in the Floyd Mayweather era.
My top 5 of all time:
    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Henry Armstrong
    Joe Louis
    Salvador Sanchez
    Roberto Duran

  • Not the same situation at all, but I thought you might find it kind of funny. As far as the Ortiz Mayweather fight, Cortez brough the two men back to the center of the ring and said “let’s go”. At that point the fight is back on. How many apologies is Floyd supposed to allow before he can start punching again?
Ortiz is a young kid who let the moment get the better of him. Floyd took what was given to him, and scored a 100% legal KO. (You didn’t see any protest from the Ortiz corner did you?)

  • If that is truely your stance, than you never were a boxing fan. Right after the headbutt, and before Cortez penalized him, Ortiz kissed Floyd on the cheek, and hugged him as an apology. Cortez brought both men to the center of the ring and said “let’s go”. At that point the fight was back on. How many times is Floyd supposed to allow Ortiz to apologize before he can begin punching again.
Too many of you people who don‘t know boxing and can’t stand Mayweather are making yourselves look like idiots on this thread.
Floyd was putting it on Victor, and was headed for a stoppage in the next few rounds anyway. Lucky for Ortiz it happened more sooner than later so he didn’t have to take any further punishment.
Oh and by the way, if it was such a bad call, why wasn‘t there any protest from Ortiz’s corner. If Floyd cheated the kid out of his WBC Welterweight Championship belt, don’t you think there would have been some kind of complaints from trainer Danny Garcia.
Quit comenting on stuff you know nothing about and please quit with the CAPS. It just makes you sound shrill.

  • Right after the headbutt, and even BEFORE Cortez could penalize him, Ortiz hugged Floyd and kissed him on the cheek… Cortez then brought the two men to the center of the ring and said “…let’s go”. How many times is Floyd supposed to let Ortiz apologize to him before he can start fighting again? Remember, this is a fight – not a tickling match.

  • youtube “Nate Cambell vs Robby Peden”

  • If you knew boxing, you’d know how utterly stupid you sound. Floyd drooling from taking shots???? Aside from round two in the Mosley fight and a few punches in the first fight against Castillo, I can’t really remeber Floyd ever getting hit square in his entire career. (maybe one or two shots against Emmanuel Augustus…) Mayweather is the slickest, and greatest defensive fighter of this era.
If you’re talking about scambled brains, you must be talking about Manny “I lead with my face” Pacquiao. There‘s a prime candidate for demensia if the ’roids don’t do him in first.
By the way, Floyd made aguaranteed 25 Million last night, and with the PPV upside, he could clear 40 million when all the reciepts are counted…. But YOU’RE the smart one here.

  • You couldn’t be more wrong. The punch was 100% legal as evidenced by HBO commentator Jim Lampley (hardly a Mayweather crony). Just because a man drops his hands in front of you doesn‘t mean you’re supposed to stop fighting. My guess is you‘ve never laced ’em up in your life, or you wouldn’t make such ignorant comments.

  • You are 100% wrong. Go to youtube and check out the live look. Cortez brought the men to the center of the ring and said “let’s go!”. Ortiz froze up on the big stage and it cost him big time. I suppose you missed the reprehensible intentional headbutt Victor threw at Floyd just before the KO. Floyd did exactly what he was supposed to do. Boxing isn’t a tickling match.

  • Floyd did nothing wrong… After a blatant and 100% intentional headbut by a frustrated Ortiz, Joe Cortez seperated the two fighters, and took 2 points ffrom Victor. After further warning him, he brought the men to the center of the ring and said “let’s go…”. At that point Ortiz should have had his hands up ‘cus the fight was back on. Instead, he tried apologizing and hugging on a man who he is supposed to be trying to hurt.
THE FIRST pre-fight instruction is “Protect yourself at all times”.
Victor could not get any offense going against the ultra-slick Mayweather, and is lucky the fight ended when it did, because he was just going to take more punishment if the fight had gone any longer. Even after a 17 month lay-off, Floyd looked in top form, landing check-hooks and lead right hands at will.
Compubox had Mayweather landing an astounding 49% of his power shots. He is truely the best fighter in the game.
As far as his comments to Larry Merchant, I think Floyd was way out of line, although the two have had a real animous toward each other for years now.
The PPV buys were already in the bank, so it made no sense for Floyd to keep promoting at that point.
All he did was make himself look like a thug.
Maybe he’s already promoting his next fight – If people keep hating him, they’ll shell out the 60 bucks to see him lose.
