  • The Confederate flag is not racist. It is a symbol of heritage, ancestral connection & sovereignty. Slavery existed under the American flag far longer than it did under the Confederate flag (NY was one of the colonies with the largest number of slaves). Not ONE slave ship flew the Confederate flag! Yet, it is only the South & the Confederate flag that is degraded for slavery.

There were many Confederates, including Robert E. Lee, who were against slavery but fought for their homeland, the South. They didn’t want a controlling Federal govt running their lives. A tyrannical Big Brother was NOT what they signed up for when they joined the Union! If I would have been alive in 1861, I would have struggled with the decision to fight for my Southern state in spite of hating the horrible institution of slavery. Maybe I would have ended up like one woman I read about who was a Confederate nurse who was loyal to the cause except for one thing: she worked with the Underground Railroad!

My grandson is half black / half white (on the white side he is descended from two Civil War soldiers; one was a Union soldier who was injured outside of Richmond & the other a Confederate surgeon who contracted malaria while a POW at Vicksburg). We teach the young man to appreciate & admire all of his heritage. He does not hang his head in shame when he sees the Confederate flag hanging next to Old Glory on my porch!

I agree with the Councilman. Fight on!

  • How ridiculous that the school system could get away with this kind of ban! I work at a state-funded institution of higher education. A recruitment meeting of the ISO (International Socialist Organization) took place at the college last year. I went to the meeting to hear what the opposition (enemy) was all about. Quite the eye-opener! This far-left group wants to usher in global Marxism, they hate and want to bring down the Tea Party, and they are quite involved in the Occupy Wall Street bowel movement.

How come a bunch of Marxists can reserve a room at a publicly-funded college but a religious group cannot? I would SO challenge this decision. The Marxists are everywhere and they are doing whatever they can to bring down the America of our forefathers, where religious freedom was FREE and not banned!

People, get involved. Not just in the presidential election, because who becomes president every four years is less important than who is teaching our youth! Get involved locally! And think of this. The Marxists have taken over K-12 and higher education. It is hard to find conservatives on the campus where I work. We are a minority that is sometimes even snubbed.

Conservatives must do what the lefties did. Infiltrate! Get jobs in education. But remember. You must ACT like a leftie to get the job first. And for professors. You will need to keep your conservatism on the down-low until you get tenure. THEN you can “come out of the closet” so to speak. Fight back.

  • Oh I forgot. Throw in the History professors in that mix. History is also presented in a biased way. It is pathetic. Unfortunately, with the economy so bad, people of all ages are compelled to attend institutions of higher education (most of them public) thru grants and loans. I have mixed feelings about continuing my employment at a place that goes against almost everything I believe. I’m praying for wisdom daily. Does God want me there? Can I continue to make a small difference?

  • I work in higher education. It is a FACT that most public universities and colleges are liberal bastions. Most of the few conservatives at the institution where I work (as support staff) keep their political opinions on the down-low so as not to make waves. Unfortunately, I am not one of the ones who can keep it on the down-low. I make no secret of the fact that I am a tea partier. I know I’m treading on thin ice, because two of my conservative friends have already been let go for whatever reasons the institution can drum up. But I am a good worker with a passion for education. I just cannot stand the falsehoods that the Political Sciences professors jam down the student’s throats (not to mention that global warming is presented as a FACT in the Sciences department)!

  • The International Socialist Organization is most definitely involved heavily in the OWS chaos. I hate to even call it a “movement” unless referring to it as the bowel movement it is. The leftist lamestream media blatantly supports the chaos. Backers – and they surely are Marxist – are using time-tested tactics:
    Mass protest
Harassing law enforcement and other officials
    Occupying buildings
    Dramatization
Blocking roads & entrances/exits to cities
    Overloading facilities
Causing hatred of “perceived” enemies (the enemies in this case are other Americans)
Dehumanization of enemies (referring to them as evil, vultures, etc)
Creating an “us against them” frenzy

These are just a few examples. Why hasn’t Homeland Security been called? Why is the federal government silent? We know why! And we must stand strong against these attacks against our nation.

  • @ Ricckky: Great idea. We should demand release from the NEA and form our own group. Maybe like an education co-op for those of us who want OUT of the govt-run school system. Or vouchers to go to the private schools of our choice. Relief from public school taxes for anyone who opts out of public school education. No taxing if you don’t use the govt-run school system and can prove it! There is only oppression in public schools – very costly oppression.

  • James, all very good points. I was leaning for Rick Perry, but now I’m leaning more towards Herman Cain as my man. (You shoud have heard Cain laughing over the SNL depiction of his speech!). We should ALL be very verbal in our demand for equal time for all of the candidates. How else are we going to get to know them so WE can make an informed decision?!

  • I am a Tea Partier, and I used to like Morgan Freeman. Now his racist attitude has been revealed. And it IS racist if a person assumes that just because a person wants Obama out of office that they are being racist! That is stinkin thinking.

Herman Cain would make an excellent president. He is smart, calm under pressure, light-hearted, has a great 9-9-9 plan, and did I mention he is a black man? A black man I could definitely support. Oh the horror! A Tea Partier who supports a black man.

But I would support any of the GOP candidates in order to get Obama out of office. OMG! (Obama Must Go). Call me a racist. Who cares?! Here a racist. There a racist. Everywhere a racist racist. Morgan Freeman is a racist too.

  • These Are the Ten Poorest States in the Union

    September 18, 2011 at 12:38pm

There are reasons that most of the poorest states are in the South. The Civil War and Reconstruction.

  • Yeah sure. Make a joke out of this. Can‘t you tell that the look on the guy’s face indicates a person who is deeply disturbed. Being so is no joke. From the looks of him, his soul is screaming for help! Mayhap there are many people feeling like this man. Think about it. These are very trying times we live in. I’m surprised any of us still have any sanity left! Please join me in saying a prayer for Michael Andes. How awful for him to end up with his photo blasted on the Internet!
