  I think Obama needs to go over and talk to them nice, and tell them that he is listening, then perhaps it would all be better if he would just apologize for the British to have made a Cemetary there. I think that would solve all the problems and they can all go home and make falafels and smoke their hukkas finish off with some baklava. What a grand idea!.

  Exactly! I was a Spanish teacher taught the importance or recognizing ALL the unique cultures within the Spanish speaking world. I find it ridiculous that Spanish as taught in the US is primarily focused on Mexico. I oriented my students toward Spain, taught the diversity of the Spanish (Iberian) European Cultures that Spain is comprised of, then I introduced them to the meso-American cultures that flavor the Latino cultures in the Americas. It‘s different if you are having an exchange program and you learn the anthem of said country for the purpose of honoring those students visiting but to learn Mexico’s anthem and pledge is indicative of the ignorance of that teacher. I actually had the Mexican teacher that visited our school question why I had a the flag of Spain up instead of Mexico in my classroom. I politely reminded her that Spanish did not originate in Mexico. She never brought it up again.

  I also lived near the border with Canada, we learned to sing the Canadian national anthem, we did it for the spirit of friendship with our sister school in Toronto. But we were NOT required to pledge allegiance to anyone. I was a Spanish teacher and I didn’t teach any student the national anthem of any country. It’s different if you are going to honor students from the country in an exchange but this ridiculous act by a Spanish teacher who needs to be disciplined by the administration. I am a naturalized American citizen and I totally disagree with this teacher’s actions. I am so sick of this nation being tread upon by everybody. I am of the old school “LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT”.

  Though I in no way support the “Occupy Wall Street” loonies, the Bank of America was wrong to not allow those women their right to close an account, they were not threatening anyone. OUR FREEDOMS are for ALL. If you begin to discriminate protesters what’s next? Because you are a Christian or Jew or Muslim. The redeeming quality of these United States is Freedom for All. Even the freedom to disagree. I am a proud American, conservative, Christian but that was uncalled for. Be careful Bank of America you are treading on peoples civil rights.

  An appeaser, WWII was full of them, see what it got the world then, now is like then. Obviously, Herr Mijland didn’t study of European History 711AD to 1492AD. In Spain it was the Moorish Invasion that occupied for 800 years. Thousands of Christians were slaughtered by the Muslims…. as in, they started it. Hence the European response was the Crusade. You go Wouter boy.

  all due respect but you are wrong, the telegraph was invented in the late 1700s, therefore by 1859 there was a network of telegraph system in the USA. Someone needs to do some research before talking crap!
