It is via our faith, repentence, confession, and baptism that we enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ wherein it is through His grace and mercy we are saved. This washes us clean of our past sins. This does not make us unaccountable for our future actions but does give us continued access to his forgiveness.

The book of 1st John is clearly written to fellow Christians1st and John 1:5-10 states the following:

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light,as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and)the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. ”

So Christians can be out of fellowship with God if we walk in darkness, but we if walk in the light His sacrifice cleanses us from sin. It’s not that we are perfect, but if we become His children and are faithful, confessing our sins when we stray then we are forgiven. Continuing to live, or returning to live a life of sin (for example, living a homosexual lifestyle) clearly is choosing to walk in darkness & not
