You know, people should do whatever they want. Well, that is not how traditional conservatives view the world and I think most conservatives understand that individuals can’t go it alone. That there is no such society that I am aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

  This is Straussian conservatism, not traditional conservatism. You are being duped.

  You gotta hand it to the neo-cons. They peddle hypocrisy as virtue with a straight face. “We’re for the Constitution!” Except when we want to federalize drug laws or federally ban same-sex marriage. “We’re for the Founders!” Except when we engage in preemptive war or support military alliances. “We’re for traditional family values!” Except when our front-runners engage in extra-marital affairs.

  That would explain why he’s second in Iowa and third in NH. Maybe if the GOP was actually conservative they wouldn’t need to worry about a third-party run.

  I wonder how many of these “conservatives” support a federal law banning same-sex marriage. I wonder how they square such an ideology with the concept of federalism and enumerated powers.
