  I prefer to believe that they are honorable American citizens deserving the same respect I expect of them. Without any evidence otherwise would be unAmerican.
  I am American and a Christian. I am not offended by anyone’s faith. I will defend my faith and its principles where threatened in courts, the streets and the church. If the people of this nation unwarrantedly threaten or punish innocent citizens of any faith we have lost the faith of our founding fathers. God help us if that came to be.

  Yes, the intent was only meant to limit Congress from saying you must be this faith or that faith or even no faith. But not this poppycock some foist upon citizens because they are financially able to pursue expensive litigation.
  If Islam wanted a municipal display where a significant population lived an petitioned for a registered display. I would defend there right to have it. No one is telling me I must convert, believe or worship. Just respect it if reasonable. Freedom , responsibility and honor. We are Americans, we can handle it. If we cannot we don’t deserve to have it. If these absurdities are allowed to stand I will post legal recourse to having grass and trees on municipal lawns. After all this offends my fear of pantheism and they are promoting it with my tax dollars.

  If another major faith, even Islam wanted a municipal display wher a population met petition requirement (validated, of course)requested it an the council accepted it. It should be respected pplauded in this U.S.A. I don’t have to like it, I don’t have to worship it. But, I defend the right t to religious respect by the state.

  Boomslander, A lack of belief would be an agnostic. This is still a decision and a belief to continue to consider God’s existence. An atheist denies any acknowledgement of God. Therefore, he/she had to come to that through some sort of decision process (unless at total ignorance of concept) Therefore, it is a decision to not believe a concept. That’s still a belief in rejection of a concept. It is being forced upon many in the name of separation. Establishment of religion by the congress as originally intended has been highjacke. All it meant that no specific religion could be established to be anAmerican. A display no more establishes a religion than does a painting, statue, or other symbol. I could be offended by a statue of Washington and claim that the city was requiring my worship of him. Do you understand the difference? I pray to God that people wake up real quick.

  Well of course. If this act made her “happy” because her happiness is paramount. You see, there is no way of knowing that the girl whose hair was set was not already happy. She should surely want to be altruistic and bring happiness to the fire setter and manifest this mutual participation that they share.

  Maybe, I am just too simple. But where is his problem? If the commander told him to contribute, had to say Amen or lead a Christian or any other religion’s prayer he would be justified. Is he not part of a unit? Many members believe that they are providing sacrifice to God and Country. I guess he just couldn’t keep quiet andlet his brothers in arms have their beliefs acknowledged too. If you don‘t want to pray don’t, but don’t mess with believers rights to assemble when they may be required to sacrifice their mortal to save your terminate human are. If it were me there would be a Captain that may catch a stray bullet. I don’t want to be with him. Not because he doesn’t profess belief, but it his inordinate and dangerous obsession with hishonor being insulted and to hell with my honor. He would have selected his own level of separation. What a piece of human excrement this Cp’n is.
