  The problem with Mohammed is that all of his reported activities happened in Arabia. As far as I know there are no outside independent contemporary witnesses to his exploits. And Mohammed conveniently dies just before the Arabs swarm out of Arabia.

  We also know that Uthman destroyed all of the earlier copies of the Koran and had a committee write a new official version.

  Therefore Uthman‘s committee wrote the official Koran and Mohammed didn’t have anything to do with even if he did exist since he died before it was written.

  Likewise the hadiths are probably stories like the Gospels . Both are meant to show why the featured character is worthy of having a religion based upon his actions and words.

  Why does anyone believe that Satan tempted Jesus in the desert when the only beings in the story are Jesus and Satan?

  Why does anyone believe that the angel Gabriel spoke to Mohammed when the only two beings in the story are Gabriel and Mohammed?
