Is China a greater national security threat than Russia?

Filling in on “Dana,” Lawrence Jones welcomed Doug Wead, Presidential Historian, as a guest. They discussed the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and China and the U.S. and Russia.

Wead reminded the audience of how, during the campaign, Donald Trump, repeatedly signaled that he believed there was a trade imbalance between China and the U.S., and he planned to do something about it. He further went on to say that he believed the issue with Russia to be a diversion, noting that both China and Russia couldn’t be taken on at the same time.

Pushing back, Lawrence pointed out that Russia has long been a threat to U.S. national security. While Wead did not disagree, he asserted China to be the “greater threat to national security.”

“I see China as the greater danger because it’s crippling our economy,” Wead stated. “The flow of money from the United States to China is the greatest transfer of wealth in our lifetime outside of the Middle East.”
