Tuesday on "The Glenn Beck Radio Program," Glenn revisited the latest developments in the world of computing and robotics and the ongoing debate in the scientific community over the dangers and potential benefits of advancements in artificial intelligence technology.
Noteworthy scientists and entrepreneurs like Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates have warned that a runaway AI could spell the end of humanity — not through malicious rebellion like in the classic science-fiction film "The Terminator," but through a programming error affecting key societal systems like the economy or the world's nuclear stockpile.
Glenn explained that this debate is connected to our nation's long-standing political dispute over abortion, as both conversations revolve around defining life and its value:
"We should be having the conversation of, 'What is life?' And you can tell that man cares about life more than anything else. Because anything that you read about Silicon Valley, they're all searching for one thing. And for the first time in human history, we're about to cross into it. And it is the Fountain of Youth. Right now, the biggest thinkers on Earth are trying to cure death. As amazing and as ridiculous as that sounds, they're really trying to do it."
