New boy band's members are all women pretending to be boys

A new boy band was introduced in China and already has nearly 1 million followers on its fan page before debuting any music. One small detail- the members aren’t boys.

The five women of FCC-Acrush, most in their early twenties, describe themselves as androgynous. They avoid using personal pronouns like he or she and instead picked a word meaning “handsome youths” to describe themselves. A 28-year-old talent agent searched the country to find the unisex members for this band.

They say they get love letters from female fans, but part of their brand is not revealing their sexual orientation. “Of course I won’t like fans back,” says the 21-year-old captain of the band. Their first music video will debut at the end of April.

Japan has had a genderless "kei" culture for years, but the trend appears to spreading across Asia, first with model Zhao Yiming, and now into the music industry.
