Origin of windshield wipers is a testament to American ingenuity

TheBlaze presents the little-known history of the windshield wiper in our animated series "Illuminating Moments in American History."

Over 100 years ago, Mary Anderson did us all a favor and invented the ubiquitous windshield wiper. Back then, when Old Man Winter paid a visit there was no easy way of removing snow and sleet from the windshield of a vehicle, and that got Mary thinking. After several failed designs, Mary finally found her favorite and got it patented.

Although she never made any money from her idea, she at least knew her invention was saving lives.
