The IRS will pay Equifax $7.25 million to help prevent fraud -- what?

That's mindboggling. The IRS will pay the same company that exposed nearly half of consumers' personal information $7.25 million to help them prevent fraud.

The contract was awarded to Equifax's data services according to POLITICO and will "verify taxpayer identity" and "assist in ongoing identity verification and validations."

People aren't happy. Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) told POLITICO, "In the wake of one of the most massive data breaches in a decade, it’s irresponsible for the IRS to turn over millions in taxpayer dollars to a company that has yet to offer a succinct answer on how at least 145 million Americans had personally identifiable information exposed."

Doc wasn't having it either. He ridiculed the IRS for its lack of simple verification systems and was pretty pissed about government spending and the no-bid contract between Equifax and the IRS.
