What is socialism, and what does it mean for the economy? College students who call themselves socialists often don’t know what it entails in practice, as Campus Reform discovered during interviews with students in Washington, D.C.
“If socialism is ‘helping people,’ then I’m for it,” one student declared without giving specifics. Another student tried to explain socialism as a form of government that is “more open” and “more accessible to a lot more people,” giving them “equal ground.” In the video, students couldn’t explain what socialism meant from an economic standpoint or even what it was in theory.
On Wednesday’s “The Glenn Beck Radio Program,” Glenn Beck and the guys talked about while college students think they want “socialism” in theory – they have no idea what it really means.
“It is true that socialism has a bad rap. One hundred million dead will do that to you,” Stu Burguiere noted.
Glenn pointed out that several of the students called socialism a good “idea” without being able to explain exactly what the idea was.
“What’s amazing is that they all said it was a good idea. … You don’t know what the idea is; you just know the word ‘socialism’ and you associate that with good things,” Glenn said.
