Watch: North Korean missiles are a constant threat – is this really Rex Tillerson’s plan?

Catch me up:

North Korea has long been a threat to the rest of the world with its focus on a nuclear weapons program, but in 2017, that got a lot worse. In the last year, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has threatened the U.S. and its allies with nuclear war, and the hermit regime has tested 23 missiles since February.

Does Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have a plan?

Maybe? Tillerson said Tuesday that the U.S. is willing to sit down and chat with Kim “without precondition” – even if it’s just about the weather.

Making everything even more complicated: Tillerson seems to be on rocky terms with President Donald Trump, and they haven’t always been on the same page when it comes to dealing with North Korea. Tillerson wants to negotiate, while Trump has tweeted that Tillerson is “wasting his time” by trying to negotiate and mocked Kim as “Little Rocket Man.”

What did Tillerson say to North Korea?

"We are ready to have the first meeting without precondition. Let's just meet, and we can talk about the weather if you want. Talk about whether it's going to be a square table or a round table, if that's what you are excited about. But can we at least sit down and see each other face to face, and then we can begin to lay out a map, a road map of what we might be willing to work towards."

Glenn’s take:

Are the crickets we’re hearing really the best high-stakes negotiating that the U.S. can do?

“We are now two weeks past the biggest ICBM [intercontinental ballistic missile] advancement the North has ever made,” Glenn said. “Now they have the ability to wipe out the entire continental U.S. with nuclear missiles. You’d think the State Department would be in overdrive.”
