Brad Thor in the Hot Seat: American security, Thor-style

Every month, The Blaze’s Michael Opelka offers readers a quick look inside the hearts and minds of some of the most fascinating people in our world.

Our first-ever subject is No. 1 New York Times best-selling author, Brad Thor. Brad’s books are regularly featured on Glenn Beck’s radio show, but we wanted to know a little more about Mr. Thor. So we invited him to settle into the Hot Seat.

You have been part of the Homeland Security Agency’s Analytic Red Cell Unit. Has anything predicted by the Red Cell Unit come true?

I always say that the Analytic Red Cell Unit is the “Las Vegas” of government programs. What happens in the Red Cell stays in the Red Cell. Suffice it to say that these are some very creative, very bright thinkers who are doing amazing things to stay 10 to 15 steps ahead of the bad guys.

While researching “The Apostle,” you shadowed a Black Ops team in Afghanistan. Is the war in Afghanistan winnable? If so, how?

It is definitely winnable, but we have to actually wage complete and total warfare. We have to abandon political correctness, ditch our ridiculous, self-hamstringing ROEs [rules of engagement] and kill—not capture—as many of the enemy as possible.

[President] Karzai also needs to be sent packing.

Get the rest of the very personal interview with Brad only in the September 2011 issue of The Blaze Magazine.

And be sure to check out Brad’s newest book, Full Black.
