Corey Lewandoski steals spotlight in Dems' political impeachment theater

The following is an excerpt from Blaze Media’s daily Capitol Hill Brief email newsletter:

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski appeared before the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday as part of the panel’s preliminary impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, and he put on quite the performance.

Lewandowski began with a scathing opening statement that chastised lawmakers for wasting the American peoples’ time on “rabbit holes” and said that the United States "would be better served if elected officials like you concentrated your efforts to combat the true crises facing our country.” Later, he slammed failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, saying that he didn’t delete his past emails. At another point he said, “I have no obligation to be honest to the media because they're just as dishonest as anybody else.” He also mocked failed 2020 hopeful Eric Swalwell, calling him “President Swalwell” at one point. During the hearing, he also tweeted about a “potential Senate run” in New Hampshire.

Lewandowski is taking heavy criticism from the Left for his behavior and may yet be held in contempt over it, but he definitely built up some street cred on the Right. It’s one thing to call these preliminary impeachment hearings political theater; it’s another to treat the hearing as such and take control of the spotlight instead of merely playing the role of the sober-but-defensive witness for the cameras.
