No room for conservatism in GOP’s Tuesday Group

Apparently, speaking to and compromising with conservatives is an unpardonable sin for the liberal purists in the Republican Party.

The “moderate” House Republicans in the Tuesday Group are targeting its Co-Chairman Tom MacArthur, R-N.J., after MacArthur reportedly had the audacity to move the GOP Obamacare-lite bill slightly to the right.

Still well short of the full repeal that was promised, the current version of the American Health Care Act includes the “MacArthur Amendment” (permitting states to receive waivers from the federal government to suspend Obamacare regulations). The amendment was included in the bill to placate conservatives who opposed the original AHCA , as Obamacare regulations and mandates are the principal cause of skyrocketing insurance premiums.

But now the rank and file in the Tuesday Group are set to rebel, because Rep. MacArthur compromised with the Freedom Caucus, reports Scott Wong of The Hill:

MacArthur reportedly “overstepped his bounds” by negotiating with HFC Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C.

The message is clear: The GOP’s Tuesday Group liberals are just as intransigent against conservative ideas as the Democrats. Not only will they not vote for conservative legislation, they will try to punish those that actually do.

Why? A quote from an unnamed “moderate Republican,” per The Hill, is revealing: “If I vote for this healthcare bill, it will be the end of my career.”

The GOP representatives in Congress who are breaking their (ceaseless) promise to fully repeal Obamacare are more concerned with politics than doing what is right and good. And if the Freedom Caucus’ desire to stand by its word is a threat to the careers of some of their Tuesday Group colleagues, they and all that ally with them must be destroyed.
