Shame: NYT now normalizing Left's anti-free speech violence

The New York Times is shamefully normalizing violence against conservatives.

In an article reporting on Ann Coulter’s canceled speech at the University of California, Berkeley, and the recent instances of leftist violence there, Jeremy Peters claims that conservative speakers “like Ann Coulter” are “eagerly throwing themselves into volatile situations like the one at Berkeley.”

There is a lot wrong with that statement, as others have noted.

That Jeremy Peters of the New York Times would characterize organized left-wing violence as a “volatile situation” conservatives are eager to drop themselves into is outrageous. What he wrote takes the Left’s hateful intolerance for granted – as a status quo conservatives are threatening to upset. It normalizes the violent suppression of conservative viewpoints and suggests that conservatives are embracing said oppression to score political points.

Seriously?

Nobody wants to feel in danger for expressing their opinion, especially not in a place that ostensibly is diverse and tolerant – as our colleges and universities pretend to be. No American citizen wants to feel that their First Amendment right to profess what they believe is unprotected. No conservative is eager to be assaulted by rioting leftist thugs intent on using force to silence those they hate.

Yet liberals remain willfully ignorant. Robert B. Reich, former labor secretary under President Bill Clinton, told the Times that universities have “played into a narrative that the right would love to advance.”

“The narrative assumes a cultural plot against the free expression of right-wing views in which academe, mainstream media — every facet of the establishment — is organized against them.”

Leftist violence against conservatives is not a narrative. It is basic fact that left-wing opinions and demonstrations are embraced on college campuses across the U.S., while conservative opinions are greeted with rioting mobs.

To gloss over how the Left in this country is hatefully and violently oppressing conservatives on college campuses is to be complicit in their hatred. And that is what cannot be tolerated.
