WTF MSM!? Bias can come from all sides

WTF MSM!? Bias can come from all sides

Yes, this is bias …

It cuts both ways … Last night during a Fox News Alert, as Shannon Bream read a story about Donald Trump disinviting the Philadelphia Eagles from the White House, a photo montage was played of Philadelphia Eagles players kneeling. Fox had the video in a tweet that has since been removed.

This showed a clear bias. The players shown were kneeling in prayer, not to protest the national anthem. The editorial team at Fox should have known better. There is no excuse for this. Especially since no Eagles players knelt in protest last year.

This morning, Bream’s executive producer, Christopher Wallace, said in a statement, “During our report about President Trump canceling the Philadelphia Eagles trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer. To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout regular or post-season last year. We apologize for the error.”

While this was a clear case of bias, in my opinion, good on Fox for quickly and transparently apologizing.

The other side … CNN’s national security correspondent/chief Obama administration stooge Jim Sciutto is back at it again. This time Sciutto tweeted – not wrongly by the way – that the man standing next to Trump as he smiled in the Oval Office “runs a gulag jailing some 200,000 North Koreans and who oversaw the sinking of a South Korean Navy ship killing 46 & the hacking of Sony North America.” That is all true.

As the Washington Examiners’ Becket Adams explains, to see Sciutto’s problem, you need to go back a little further, to 2014, when Sciutto was praising his former boss, Barack Obama, for chatting with ruthless dictator Raul Castro on the telephone. Sciutto then tweeted, “The call that changed half a century of division: POTUS speaking with #Cuba Pres. Raul Castro yesterday.”

But what should we expect from a guy who doesn’t disclose that he worked for the Obama administration when reporting on things that happened during the Obama administration?

Outlandish …

Doxxing is dangerous … You’ll remember when CNN traveled to the homes of people who shared supposed Russian fake news on social media and showed the world where they lived. That’s doxing, and it’s dangerous. Last week the HuffPost engaged in some doxxing of a Twitter user who has been rabidly pro-Trump and has posted a lot about Muslim rape gangs and Sharia law.

Writing at The Federalist, Kevin Boyd recounts how that doxxing has ruined an entire family, even those in the family who do not share the Twitter user’s views. This is dangerous. For all the talk by people like CNN media critic/cheerleader Brian Stelter about Trump and his attacks on the media, it is that same media who is putting at risk the lives and livelihood of those they disagree with.

Lack of self-awareness … Yesterday I told you about how Brian Stelter went full conspiracy theorist on the whereabouts of Melania Trump. Many mainline conservatives, including those whom you wouldn’t call members of the Trump media, excoriated him for it. In his email newsletter last night, Stelter whined about people who called him out on his coverage and focused on the most pro-Trump people he could find to highlight. He just doesn’t get how crazy he seemed.

Good reads … Here are a few things I read this morning that you may like.

On with Deace …

Yesterday I was on the Steve Deace Show on CRTV to talk about why MSNBC keeps Joy Reid on the air after more and more questionable past blog posts emerge. Take a look. If you don’t yet have a CRTV subscription, you can watch with a 30-day free trial.

Remember, I can’t fight back alone against the mainstream media. I need your help. There are two ways you can help. First, send your friends – and even your enemies – over to the WTF MSM!? email subscription page and get them sign up. Second, email me at reno@conservativereview.com with anything questionable you see the media do. Together, we can fight back.
