WTF MSM!? Lawyer for ABC, CNN, and NYT pressured judge to publicly name Hannity as Cohen’s ‘client’

Missing disclosure … Yesterday, I told you about how CNN’s Chris Cuomo hit Sean Hannity for not disclosing his relationship with President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen. Here’s another reason Cuomo’s whining is hilarious.

Columbia Journalism Review reported that the lawyer who pushed the judge to order Hannity’s name to be publicly released is Rob Balin of Davis Wright Tremaine. Balin attended the hearing to “to represent the interests of several news organizations, including ABC, The New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press, and Newsday,” according to the report.

NewsBusters highlights how CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz reported it was an “attorney representing the press” who pushed for the disclosure. Prokupecz didn’t report that the attorney was retained in part by his employer. Unlike CNN, the New York Times disclosed its relationship with Balin. That was the right thing to do.

Before casting stones, people like Chris Cuomo should get their own glass houses in order.

What kind of news organization is NBC News? … Yesterday, NBC News’ Chuck Todd, in response to the Cohen-Hannity story, tweeted: “Going to find out what kind of org Fox is today. No serious news org would allow someone this conflicted to cover this story.” Well, that’s rich.

Todd’s wife is a founder of Maverick Mail & Strategies. In 2016 the firm received close to two million dollars from the Bernie Sanders for President campaign. That is a clear financial relationship with the Sanders campaign that Todd’s family had. As NewsBusters reported in 2016, Todd never disclosed the relationship when reporting on the presidential campaign. That is a clear fiduciary relationship that should have been disclosed.

What kind of organization is NBC News?

Limbaugh lays it out … On his radio program Tuesday, Rush Limbaugh went through just how “incestuous” the relationship between the media and the people they cover really is.  Non-disclosure of relationships is an everyday occurrence in the mainstream media. The transcript is chock-full of examples of “journalists” who don’t disclose the relationships they have or have had with people they cover. This is just another example of the media not doing what it tells others to do.

Wow …

Lol … As the clock struck midnight Tuesday night in a Washington, D.C., bookstore, employees anxiously waited for an onslaught of people looking to buy James Comey’s new book. There was one problem. Virtually nobody showed up — well, except the media. Here’s the story from CNN Politics. Not only is this hilarious, but perhaps it shows that people, even those in the Swamp, aren’t that interested in what Comey has to say. The Comey phenomenon has been manufactured by the media. This story encapsulates that perfectly.

Kudos … On Monday, the New York Times published an op-ed by Dr. Chris Kaposy, a bioethicist, who made the case for “having a baby with Down syndrome.” The piece explains how Kaposy and his wife, who claim to be pro-choice, described how it was ethical to allow a baby with the condition to be born.

Axios’ Jonathan Swan quote-tweeted a share of the op-ed and said, “Wasn’t aware that an ethical case needed to be made for NOT aborting a baby with Down Syndrome.”

Going against pro-abortion orthodoxy is a dangerous thing for a member of the media to run afoul of. I don’t know if Swan is pro-life or pro-choice. Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see someone in the media at least question a piece like this.

Baseball, aka how ’bout them Sox … 

As I’ve grown older, I’m watching fewer and fewer baseball games on television. The games take so long. I do, however, enjoy going to games, and this year I’m watching with interest the stellar pace the Red Sox are making in the American League. The game last night against one of the best teams in baseball, the Angels, was great. The Sox won in a rout. So here’s today’s question: What’s your favorite baseball team? Is it college or pro?
