Family Calls 911 After Being Cornered by Fat Cat…But That's Not Even the Funniest Part of the Story

A Portland, Ore., family was forced to call emergency responders for assistance after a ticked-off cat cornered them in a bedroom. Yes, really.

But that's not even the best part of the story — the best part is where someone from a local Oregon TV station actually transcribed the cat's “comments” from the emergency phone call.

Police were called to the scene around 8:00 p.m. Sunday after a male caller frantically dialed 911 for help. The family was chased into a bedroom after their 22-pound Himalayan attacked their baby and then went after everyone. They said they only called 911 after they couldn't get hold of animal control.

Emergency dispatchers were told over the phone that the cat “went over the edge,” and kept charging at them every time they tried to leave the bedroom.

“He’s trying to attack us,” the man said in the 911 call. “He’s very, very, very, very hostile.”

The 911 operator first made sure that the child didn’t need medical attention before sending police officers to help the family deal with the cat.

The operator “stayed on the phone with the caller to ensure the family, including the dog, remained safe in the bedroom as the cat screeched in the background,” a Portland police representative said in a statement.

Officers arrived on scene with a dog snare – just in case.

Officers quickly snared the cat, put it in a crate and told the adults the coast was clear.

“The cat remained behind bars in the custody of the family and officers cleared the scene and continued to fight crime elsewhere in the city,” the Portland police said.

So why did the cat lose its cool?

“He’s got kind of a history of violence,” the man told a 911 dispatcher. “He’s kind of a violent cat already. But he’s really bad right now.”
