Bride, Maid of Honor Walk Down the Aisle Just Six Days After Leaping From Raging Fire

"You don't want to take anything for granted, ever."

Six days before Lenise Ruff's wedding, her Colorado apartment complex was engulfed in a fire that consumed everything she owned — and almost took her life.

Ruff and her roommate Marilyn Cruc — her maid of honor — were forced to jump from the third story to survive. But less than a week later, both women made it to the nuptials where Ruff married her fiance, Sam Brown.

The Castle Rock, Colorado, bride-to-be suffered second-degree burns to her face and hands that were healing by the end of the week. Cruc was not as fortunate: She broke her back when the two jumped from the third floor onto the rocky ground below.

Both women were determined to make it to the wedding. As Cruc focused on recovery in a local hospital, the bride's family and friends rallied to her side.

By Thursday, three days before the ceremony, Ruff's burned skin had peeled from her face and hands. She called it a "fire facial."

The outdoor wedding took place June 28 as planned. Despite her recent injuries, Cruc, with the help of a back brace, a walker and the steadying support of a groomsman, made it to the ceremony.

Under the sunny Colorado skies, Ruff and Brown exchanged vows.

"You don't want to take anything for granted, ever. I've really realized how blessed and fortunate we are that we made it out alive," Ruff told WTXF.
