Police Dashcam Caught What 'Could've Been a Horrible, Horrible Situation' for One Cop

"The officer was one-tenth of a second away from losing his life."

Police were merely trying to pull over a car with a burned out headlight Sunday night. But when that driver refused to stop, it eventually led to a drug bust and an extremely close call for a Texas cop.

The driver, Corey Jackson, was going more than 100 mph, chased by other Hempstead Police Department officers, toward Lt. Noel Shelton who was laying a spike strip on the road.

"The officer was one-tenth of a second away from losing his life," Waller County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam told KPRC-TV.

Diepraam noted that going up to 115 mph allowed the car to go the distance of "a football field in a matter of two seconds."

Officials told KHOU-TV someone shouted to alert Shelton of the oncoming vehicle that was veering toward him giving him less than a second to jump out of the way.

"It could've been a horrible, horrible situation, luckily he only suffered minor, minor injuries as he jumped out of the way. It could've changed his whole life," Diepraam told KHOU.

Though the car eventually stopped, the news station reported that Jackson and his passenger, later identified as 24-year-old Jakord Hickman, ran from the scene and were later caught. Inside the car, officers found more than a pound of marijuana, which Diepraam said he believes they were going to sell.

Jackson faces charges of evading arrest and attempted capital murder, while Hickman faces evading arrest, according to KPRC.

"There is no reason to flee from police. It automatically makes it something you can go to prison for. Your vehicle can be seized and you could kill an innocent person," Diepraam told the news station.
