Something 'Tragic' Happened When This Guy Tried to Shoot His Wife's Dog

"Loss of life, regardless of the situation, is very tragic"

Dennis Emery tried to shoot his family's dog Tuesday but things didn't quite go according to plan.

Police Sgt. Adam Geissenberger in Pinellas Park, Florida said Emery was involved in a domestic disturbance with his wife on Tuesday and at some point during the disturbance retrieved a firearm. Emery later threatened to shoot one of the family's animals, according to police.

Police said that right as the gun was about to shoot, Emery turned it around toward his face. The incident is not being investigated as a suicide although police have not yet ruled out that possibility, WTVT-TV reported.

Dallas Collins, a neighbor, said Emery's wife owned 13 border collies. The barking was an ongoing issue for the couple, according to Collins: "Anytime, day or night, it doesn't matter," he added.

None of the dogs were injured in the dispute but the shot to Emery's face proved fatal.

"We're very close [to] the holiday. Loss of life, regardless of the situation, is very tragic and now this family has to deal with the loss of a loved one very close to the holidays," Geissenberger said.

Emery had run-ins with Pinellas Park police at least 34 times since 2012. He was arrested three times in less than a week just last month.
