Here's How You Can Amplify Sounds From Your Smartphone Without Using Batteries or an Electrical Outlet

"without batteries or having to deal with charging."

Move over iHome – One handyman has figured how he can amplify sounds from smartphones using nothing more than wood.

In a video posted to YouTube Tuesday, a granddaughter shows off her new Christmas present.

"My Papa (grandfather) is a very accomplished woodworker. Every year he makes something for everyone in the family for Christmas," she wrote in the video description. "This year, he out did himself.""He secretly measured everyone's phone and made one of these specifically for everyone."

The phone in the video appears to be a version of the iPhone. However, the same could be done for Android phones with the right amount of woodworking expertise.

The sound amplifier is nothing more than small square of wood with a carved-out hole to hold the phone. The makeshift dock is connected to a another piece of wood the grandfather made into the shape of a old-fashioned speaker, designed to carry the noise from the phone into a louder sound to reach an even larger space.

"It is a great way to amplify the sound of your phone, without batteries or having to deal with charging," the granddaughter added.

So perhaps it's just a matter of time before the smartphone speaker alternative hits Amazon. Just remember where you first heard about it if it ever does.
