FBI Says It Stopped Islamic State-Inspired Attacks for the Fourth of July
July 09, 2015
Federal authorities thwarted Islamic State-inspired plots to attack Americans over the Fourth of July, FBI Director James Comey said Thursday.
The attacks were intended to "kill people in the United States," Comey said, according to USA Today.
Comey told reporters that more than 10 individuals have been arrested over the past four weeks on charges related to Islamic State association, including some who plotted attacks for the Fourth of July.
Comey did not provide details about the number or targets of the planned attacks.
The FBI and Department of Homeland Security had issued a bulletin ahead of the holiday warning of the potential for terror attacks.
