CNN Reporter Asks Fla. Governor if He ‘Accepts Any Responsibility’ for Gun Laws in Wake of Orlando Attack

CNN reporter Pamela Brown asked Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott on Friday if he "accepts any responsibility" for the state's gun laws after the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando that killed 49 people last weekend.

“Yes, ISIS, terrorism could be to blame, but can you accept any responsibility for the gun laws here in Florida?" Brown asked. "The fact that it is easier to walk out of a gun store in a half hour with an AR-15 that can kill more people faster than a pistol. Yet it’s harder to get a pistol than an AR-15.”

Scott was quick to defend Floridians' constitutional right to bear arms.

“Let’s remember: The Second Amendment’s been around for over 200 years. That’s not what killed innocent people. Evil killed innocent people," Scott said, emphasizing the need to "destroy" the Islamic State.

"There's going to be a conversation about what we do to make our state, our cities, our country safer again. But let's have a conversation about how we destroy ISIS. Where's that conversation? Where's the conversation about stopping radical Islam?," Scott said.

Brown then challenged the governor by reminding him that the Orlando shooter was an American citizen and became self-radicalized over the internet. "How do you stop that," Brown asked.

"Destroy ISIS," Scott replied. "Go to the core. This is caused by ISIS being there. What are we doing to stop them?"
