#NeverTrump presidential candidate Evan McMullin goes off on Trump: 'Not a loyal American'

Former independent presidential candidate — and member of the '#NeverTrump' movement — Evan McMullin went on a tirade against President-elect Donald Trump Saturday, accusing him of not being a "loyal American."

McMullin, a former CIA operative and House GOP aide, went on his Twitter tirade after NBC News reported Saturday that Trump was planning on nominating Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson to be his secretary of state.

"In Tillerson, Trump has identified a potential secretary of state unlikely to oppose Trump's alignment with Putin," McMullin began, tweeting a link to a Washington Post story about Tillerson. "@realDonaldTrump is purposely dismantling barriers that protect our nation from dangerous Russian subversion, which he has also welcomed."

"It must be clear that Donald Trump is not a loyal American and we should prepare for the next four years accordingly," he added.

Tillerson's strong ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin became the focal point of discussion Saturday after NBC reported he was the leading candidate to become the top U.S. diplomat under Trump.

Tillerson's relationship with Putin and Russia comes from his time of living there as Exxon's liaison with Russian oil companies and the Kremlin. He even brokered a deal with Russia in 2011 that allowed Exxon to have access to oil reserves in the Arctic, according to Politico.

Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) was also very outspoken against Tillerson on Saturday, saying he's concerned about Tillerson's ties to Putin and Russia. It would take just a handful of Republican senators to vote against Tillerson to block his nomination.
