Dear Ms. Streep': Conservative 'fan for life' writes open letter chiding Oscar-winning actress
January 15, 2017
Following Meryl Streep's anti-Trump tirade during the Golden Globes awards ceremony last Sunday, reactions ranged from gushing support from liberals to stern rebukes from the conservative world. President-elect Trump even responded to the attack on Twitter.

Reacting negatively to Streep's comments about Trump was ardent fan and conservative broadcaster Lee Habeeb. The host of Salem Radio Network's "Our American Stories" penned an open letter to the Oscar-winning actress from the viewpoint of a fan.
Describing some of the amazing performances in Streep's early works, Habeeb's first six paragraphs of his letter to the actress go a long way to establish the writer's fan-boy bona fides.
And then, Habeeb spends the next eighteen paragraphs taking Streep to task for using the Golden Globes to espouse her dislike of Trump.
Calling Streep's performance "obvious," "rude" and lacking the actress' "characteristic courage to surprise and challenge all of us," Habeeb broke down why he was seeing red.
Habeeb called into question the wisdom of Streep's attack someone who received the votes from more than 63 million American, "Millions of your fans voted for Donald Trump, and millions were women...Like my wife, who admires your work, and who voted for Trump," wrote Habeeb.
The open letter also reminds the actress of the acclaim she earned playing Miranda Priestly, a reprehensible, but successful businesswoman in "The Devil Wears Prada." Habeeb speculates on a possible parallel between Priestly and Trump.
"Could it be that Donald Trump has similar strengths and flaws? And might end up being a great leader, too? And could it be that those people who voted for him saw what you just couldn't see?"
Habeeb went on to say Streep's statement lacked courage. Instead, the performance delivered to an audience in complete agreement with her was more accurately characterized as "moral preening masquerading as courage," wrote Habeeb.
In the end, Habeeb gives Streep "a pass" on her latest "performance."
The open letter wraps up with a pledge to still support the work of the three-time Oscar winner, "From a fan for life, no matter what your political views," said Habeeb.
Lee Habeeb also claims he sent the note to Streep's agent and "anxiously awaits a response."
