Nurses who previously cared for Stan Lee — famed superhero creator, as well as former president and chairman of Marvel Comics — have accused the 95-year-old comic book icon of sexual misconduct, with allegations ranging in severity from lewd conversation to demands for oral sex.
What are the details?
The Daily Mail reported Tuesday that several nurses belonging to an agency that formerly cared for the famed superhero creator accused him of unwanted advances, groping, repeated demands for oral sex, lascivious comments, and walking around naked.
The Daily Mail reported that the company severed ties with Lee toward the end of 2017.
The publication reported that the nursing company, employed to care for Lee, is purportedly locked in a legal dispute with the Marvel Comics creator as a result of the allegations.
The Daily Mail reported, however, that no police reports have been called in, nor have any lawsuits been filed with regard to the alleged incidents.
A representative for the nursing company employed by Lee reportedly confirmed the complaints’ existence with the Daily Mail.
What have others said?
A source who reportedly had inside knowledge of the alleged incidents told the Daily Mail that the Marvel Comics icon is “an old man who has seemingly lost his way.”
“He doesn’t seem to care what people think of him, he’s lost his filter,” the source purportedly told the publication. “There has been a stream of young nurses coming to his house in West Hollywood and he has been sexually harassing them. He finds it funny.”
The source noted that Lee reportedly walks around his West Hollywood home naked and behaves in a vulgar manner toward the nurses, purportedly asking them to be pleasured in various ways.
“It’s unacceptable behavior, especially from an icon like Stan,” the source reportedly alleged.
A representative for Vitale Nursing, Inc. — Lee’s current caretakers — said that the Marvel Comics icon has been nothing but “polite, kind, and respectful.”
“It has been a privilege to care for him,” the representative told the publication.
Did Lee respond to the allegations?
An attorney for Lee said that his client “categorically denies” the “false and despicable” allegations and has full intent to defend his “stellar good name.”
The lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to the company in December over what he referred to as “defamatory” claims.
“We are not aware of anyone filing a civil action, or reporting these issues to the police, which for any genuine claim would be the more appropriate way for it to be handled,” the statement to the Daily Mail read. “Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media. Mr. Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong.”
