Chris Wallace compares Nancy Pelosi's racist joke to Trump's comment - here's what he said
January 12, 2018
Fox News' Chris Wallace was asked to compare a mocking comment by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) referencing the race and gender of attendees at a meeting over immigration and that controversial comment allegedly made by the president about African countries.
Here's the video of Wallace responding:
Here's what Wallace said:
“Democrats are not without criticism this morning either, Chris," said Fox News’s Sandra Smith. "Nancy Pelosi's joke, I guess, some are saying that it was, didn't go over so well."
"No," Wallace replied, "it was a dumb remark. It was representative of the identity politics that Democrats play that instead of talking about these five individuals who are having this meeting. It was, you know the top vote-counters in the House and the Senate, both Republican and Democrat, and also the chief of staff, John Kelly, at the White House."
"It was a dumb remark, but I gotta say, in all fairness," he added, "it's a parking ticket compared to what the president allegedly said."
What did Pelosi say?
During a press conference, Pelosi was asked what she thought about negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over immigration, and she mocked them by calling them "five white guys," and making a reference to a popular hamburger shop.
Rep. Steny Hoyer (Md.), a Democrat who attended the meeting, denounced Pelosi's comments as "offensive."
A Trump denial
The president said Friday that he didn't use the term that was reported, but Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) contradicted his denial.
