Broward County deputy has been suspended after he did this outside Parkland high school

A Broward County sheriff's deputy was suspended because he was caught doing something rather surprising outside the school of the horrible Valentine's Day shooting — he was sleeping.

Here's what happened

A student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, told a deputy that he saw one of their officers sleeping in his patrol car.

The sleeping deputy was identified as Deputy Moises Carotti, and he was parked right outside the building of the massacre.

The deputy woke up Carotti and reported the incident to his superiors. They replaced Carotti with another deputy. The deputy was discovered at about 5 p.m. Monday.

Carotti has been placed on paid suspension and an investigation has begun into the matter.

An odd coincidence

Coincidentally, just a half hour before Carotti had been caught sleeping, the brother of the murderer had been arrested for trespassing onto the same campus.

Zachary Cruz said that he went to the site in order to “reflect on the school shooting and to soak it in.”

The Broward County sheriff's department has been under close and critical scrutiny over what many see as incompetence that could have prevented some, if not all, of the 17 deaths in the Parkland massacre.
