While the longtime co-host formula of “The View” — one conservative outnumbered by a handful of liberals at the table — would seem unfair, Meghan McCain has been proving herself a worthy adversary all by her lonesome in the face of Joy Behar and her leftist cohorts.
To wit, when other co-hosts of “The View” expressed outrage over the data mining abuses of Cambridge Analytica — the political data analytics firm that worked on President Donald Trump’s victorious 2016 campaign — McCain wasted no time pointing out their hypocrisy.
“I don’t completely understand this scandal now in the sense that this has been happening since 2012. The Obama campaign did this brilliantly. They used micro-targeting and data mining,” she told her co-hosts.
She then backed up her claim by noting “The Victory Lab” said the Obama campaign used data mining, calling it “a new political currency that predicted the behavior of individual humans. The campaign didn’t just know who you were; it knew exactly how it could turn you into the type of person it wanted you to be.”
McCain continued: “So, the double standard I don’t understand right now is … it happened with Obama, and it was lauded by the media as being genius. And now the Trump campaign did it, and it’s a Cambridge Analytica scandal.”
Her co-hosts were quiet until Behar asked if what Obama did was the same thing. “Yeah, it was micro-targeting and data mining,” McCain replied.
Then came a defense of Obama…
Naturally co-host Sunny Hostin jumped in. “I think it’s different, though.” McCain chuckled amid answering, “It’s not different though.”
Hostin pressed on, determining that Cambridge Analytica was on a “misinformation campaign” while the Obama campaign simply was “pushing his own message.”
But McCain wasn’t having it
McCain shot back, peppering her co-hosts with more at-the-ready research about the Obama campaign’s data mining, even as she said she didn’t like her info being accessed, either, even calling Cambridge Analytica a “shady company.”
“It is interesting to me that there wasn’t a problem with it when the Obamas did it,” McCain noted again. “And now there’s a big problem with it when Trump did it.”
