Pro-gun control Parkland teacher literally loses control of gun, is arrested for leaving it loaded

Law enforcement arrested a Parkland, Florida, teacher for reportedly — and accidentally — leaving his loaded firearm in a public restroom.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School's Sean Simpson — a pro-gun control science teacher who once volunteered to arm himself to protect kids in school, according to WPLG-TV — was arrested after reportedly leaving his loaded gun in a public restroom.

A homeless man allegedly got his hands on the weapon before Simpson remembered he'd left it behind.

Law enforcement said that the homeless man, who was reportedly drunk, discharged the gun once.

No one was hurt.

Simpson told officers that he'd set down his Glock 9 mm in a restroom stall and forgotten it there when he'd left.

When he returned, he heard a single gunshot.

Simpson reportedly told officers that he re-entered the public restroom and discovered the homeless man holding the weapon. Simpson said that he grabbed the gun from the homeless man's hands.

What did the police do?

Police arrested the homeless man and charged him with one count of firing a weapon in public and one count of trespassing.

Police arrested Simpson with failing to safely store a firearm, which is a second-degree misdemeanor. He could face up to 60 days in jail if convicted.

Simpson was released after posting a $250 cash bond.

According to the arrest report, "there was a reasonable likelihood that the firearm could have ended up in the hands of a child or the discharge of the firearm could have wounded another person to child."

Simpson was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14 during the mass killing that took the lives of 17 people and injured many others.

WPLG reports that Simpson remains employed at the school despite the arrest.
