Governor Jerry Brown accuses Trump of 'war on California' - here's why

California Governor Jerry Brown said that President Trump's immigration policies constituted a "war on California" because he said they would have a negative effect on the state's economy.

Here's the latest in the feud between Trump and California

The state government in California has been lauded by many on the left for being at the forefront of the "resistance" movement against the president and his policies.

The latest skirmish involves the call from Trump for National Guard to be sent to the border to help immigration officials enforce border security against illegal alien crossings.

California at first answered the call, but then Brown said that the National Guard troops he sent to the border would not be helping border security officials fulfill Trump's immigration goals.

Trump slammed the decision by Governor Brown Tuesday in a tweet.

"Looks like Jerry Brown and California are not looking for safety and security along their very porous Border," he said. "He cannot come to terms for the National Guard to patrol and protect the Border."

"The high crime rate will only get higher," he posited. "Much wanted Wall in San Diego already started!"

A "war on California"

Governor Jerry Brown shot back at the accusations from Trump on Tuesday.

"Is this a war on California?" Brown asked.

"Is this a war on the engine of our American economy and innovation?" he continued. "Go to Silicon Valley, look at these people. You can see these people come from somewhere else, this is the genius of America."

"We didn't get built on just the indigenous people, far from it, we destroyed the indigenous people and had nothing but immigration. That's the story of California, I think we oughta remember that," he added.

He blamed a "little narrow group of fearful people" in the Republican party for standing in the way of innovation in California.
