Ex-FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe expected to file lawsuits for defamation, wrongful termination

Ex-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is planning to file lawsuits for “defamation, wrongful termination and other claims,” the New York Post reported.

When is this expected to happen?

His attorney, Michael Bromwich, said Friday they are still determining the timing of the suits. McCabe’s legal team indicated they want the case to be solid and will "file when we’re ready,” Axios reported

Bromwich has accused President Donald Trump and other opponents of “continuing slander.” But the targets of the lawsuit were not specified.

“We’ve never seen anything like this before. It does damage not only to Andy McCabe individually but also to the FBI as an institution,” Bromwich said.

McCabe is also “upset and disappointed” over remarks made by ex-FBI Director James Comey on his book tour. Comey has said McCabe will be held accountable if he is “found guilty of lying to other FBI officials about a leak to the press.”

“Nobody’s memory is perfect, people are fallible,” Bromwich said when asked about McCabe and Comey having different versions of their time together at the FBI.

Bromwich added: “McCabe has a clear recollection, Comey does not.”

What about the criminal referral?

The Justice Department's inspector general’s office issued a criminal referral to federal prosecutors in Washington that recommends McCabe face prosecution for allegedly lying to the FBI.

McCabe, however, maintains that he did not lie. His attorney said he is confident McCabe will not face prosecution, even with the referral.
