Robbery suspect gets taste of own medicine when theft goes awry and legal gun owner fights back

An armed robbery suspect ended up being the one taking a bullet after a reported attempted robbery went haywire.

What are the details?

According to KDKA-TV, the events all began when at least three men from a Pittsburgh-area neighborhood began discussing a purchase of a PlayStation on Facebook.

At least two of those men believed that they were meeting up with another party in a Pittsburgh neighborhood on Monday to purchase the video gaming console.

KDKA reported that police said the man who attempted to manipulate the sale into what later turned into an attempted robbery ended up being shot by one of the victims, who was reportedly carrying a legal concealed firearm at the time of the incident.

The alleged armed robber, identified by police as 20-year-old Miel Santiago, reportedly advanced on the two victims and pulled a gun on them during what they believed to be an innocent exchange.

KDKA reported that one of the victims pulled out his own concealed firearm and fired at Santiago, striking him in the leg.

Where did the suspect go?

Santiago was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he was placed under guard for the duration of his recovery. The station reports that he will be taken directly to the Allegheny County Jail upon discharge.

Santiago is being charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. Other charges include carrying a firearm without a license, criminal mischief, and conspiracy.

The two victims were not identified.
