Leftist 'white genocide' prof compares national anthem to Nazi salute in viral tweet

A leftist professor perhaps known best for his comments praising "white genocide" has come out with another doozy: comparing standing for the national anthem to the Nazi salute.

Wait, so who is this guy, anyway?

George Ciccariello-Maher, a former associate professor of politics and global studies at Drexel University in Philadelphia, tweeted that there was only one thing on his Christmas list in December: “white genocide.”

Ciccariello-Maher, who is apparently white, subsequently deleted the tweet after heavy backlash.

On Christmas Day, Ciccariello-Maher clarified his remarks. Or tried to.

“To clarify: when the whites were massacred during the Haitian Revolution, that was a good thing indeed,” he wrote in a puzzling tweet.

It wasn't the first — or last — time he made — or would make — an incendiary tweet.

After making the "white genocide," remarks Ciccariello-Maher resigned from his position at Drexel just days after the initial tweet.

Ciccariello-Maher said that "after nearly a year of harassment by right-wing, white supremacist media outlets and internet mobs, after death threats and threats of violence directed against me and my family, my situation has become unsustainable. Staying at Drexel in the eye of this storm has become detrimental to my own writing, speaking, and organizing."

And what's he saying now?

Ciccariello-Maher, who — surprise! — is now a current New York University scholar-in-residence, compared the NFL's ban on kneeling during the national anthem to the Nazi salute.

On Friday, Ciccariello-Maher shared a Twitter update that featured an old article about a German football club who had been banned for 12 months after failing to give the Nazi salute, and wrote, "*cough* @NFL *cough*."

Ciccariello-Maher's tweet has been retweeted over 26,000 times and liked over 67,000 times.

So what does this mean?

In 1934, a German football team was banned from playing for a year after its members refused to give the Nazi salute at a game against a French team.

According to a Daily KOS article, the original newspaper clipping read:

The Karlsruhe Football Club has been prohibited from playing during 1934 because the team failed to give the Nazi salute when entering the field to play against a French club from Nancy at Metz in December.

The failure of the team to give the salute is alleged to be due to the Frenchmen threatening that they would not play and the Germans would receive no compensation if the salute was given because it was feared that the spectators would riot.

All sports clubs were forbidden to take part in French engagements until the incident had been settled.
