Fox showrunners criticize network as former producer demands 'propaganda arm' network condemn Trump

Powerful entertainment creators connected to the Fox network recently joined forces to denounce Fox News.

Director Judd Apatow, actor and writer Seth MacFarlane, and showrunner Steve Levitan have all come forward with criticism for Fox network over its support of President Donald Trump.

What is Judd Apatow saying?

On Monday, Apatow, who has created TV shows for 20th Century Fox, called for Fox network's stars to condemn Trump and his "propaganda arm," Fox News, over coverage of migrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In a series of tweets, Apatow also laid into the network and its acting CEO, 87-year-old Rupert Murdoch.

In one such tweet, Apatow wrote, "I haven’t worked with Fox since 2002. That family promotes evil ideas and greed and corruption. We all choose who to work with. I understand why that is easier for some than others but many powerful people are powerful enough to speak up to their bosses at a moment like this."

Apatow also took aim at Attorney General Jeff Sessions, calling him a "f***ing kidnapper."

"He is a f***ing kidnapper! The [Murdochs] support these policies!" he blasted. "Where are the Fox stars and executives speaking up?! Imagine if it was your kids. Who has a movie, TV show, sporting event, news show at Fox? How can you remain silent when they promote these policies?"

Apatow later wrote, "And I haven’t seen one new powerful person who works for or at Fox stand up and say they oppose their support of these cruel policies. Not one. Fox is like the NRA to politicians. If they said this is too far the President would stop this [monstrous] behavior."

"If EVERY Fox Star and show runner said this policy was evil and protested to the Murdoch family it would make a huge difference in this national debate," he added at one point during his daylong rant.

What is MacFarlane saying?

On Saturday, MacFarlane, the creator of Fox's "Family Guy," "American Dad," and "The Orville," took aim at Fox and said that he is "embarrassed" to work for the company after network host Tucker Carlson told viewers to discount news — specifically regarding the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border — from other outlets besides Fox.

Of Carlson's comments, MacFarlane tweeted, "In other words, don’t think critically, don’t consult multiple news sources, and in general, don’t use your brain. Just blindly obey Fox News. This is fringe s**t, and it’s business like this that makes me embarrassed to work for this company."

What is Levitan saying?

On Tuesday, Levitan, the co-creator of "Modern Family," which is produced by 2oth Century Fox, bolstered MacFarlane's comments with a tweet expressing his disgust at working for Fox.

"Let me officially join @SethMacFarlane in saying I’m disgusted to work at a company that has anything whatsoever to do with Fox News," he wrote. "This bulls**t is the opposite of what #ModernFamily stands for."

Levitan's comments were in response to Fox News host Laura Ingraham's Monday night remarks that the migrant detention camps housing kids are akin to "summer camps."
