ABC announces 'Roseanne' spinoff show with the Conner family — but without Roseanne Barr

ABC has approved a spinoff of its No. 1 series "Roseanne" without Roseanne Barr, the network announced Thursday.

Much of the show's cast, including John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), and Michael Fishman (D.J.) are expected to reprise their characters on a new show that's currently being dubbed, "The Conners," according to ABC News.

“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” ABC wrote in a statement.

Barr's show, which was a revival of her popular 1980s sitcom, was canceled last month after she tweeted a racist remark about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarret. She later apologized and called her tweet a "bad joke."

It's not immediately clear how the new series will address the loss of Roseanne's character.

Will Barr have any creative or financial involvement in the spinoff?

No, but according to ABC, the settlement between Barr and the network removes all of her involvement from the series — creative and financial.

What did the show's actors say?

The cast of the new show released a joint statement about the announcement.

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts but in the hearts and homes of our audience,” the statement read, ABC reported. “We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

What did Barr say about the spinoff?

Barr released a statement that showed support for "The Conners" and her former castmates.

"I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne," Barr said, according to ABC. "I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew be saved and I wish the best for everyone."
