Conservative writer quits after Business Insider 'erases' her column on transgender roles
July 12, 2018
A conservative opinion writer says that she quit her job at Business Insider because of a politically correct campaign that resulted in the deletion of her column about transgender movie roles.
Here's what happened
Daniella Greenbaum opined about the controversy over actress Scarlett Johansson's role portraying a transgender person in a new movie.
Transgender activists and other LGBTQ allies excoriated the actress for her insensitivity to their liberal crusade, and demanded that the role be filled with a transgender person instead.
Greenbaum disagreed, and argued that Johansson should be allowed to fill the role in a column entitled, "Scarlett Johansson is being unfairly criticized for doing her job after being cast as a transgender man."
Her column was published at the Business Insider, but was later pulled down after a campaign by several of her colleagues against the politically incorrect position.
"A pattern happening all over the country"
On Thursday, Greenbaum quit her job in protest and published a scathing letter against her former employer on her social media account.
"Apparently, that radical view - that actors should be free to act - is beyond the pale of acceptable opinion," Greenbaum wrote, "as just a few hours after it went up, the piece was erased from the site following a campaign against me."
"I wish I could say I am surprised," she continued later in her letter.
“Unfortunately, what happened with my piece – the tarring of a commonsensical view as somehow bigoted or not thought out; the capitulation on the part of those who are supposed to be the adults to the mob – is a pattern happening all over the country within institutions that pride themselves on open-mindedness and liberalism,” Greenbaum concluded.
