ICE: California man who allegedly attacked wife with chainsaw was deported 11 times

A so-called “serial immigration violator” tried to kill his wife with a chainsaw at the couple’s home this week in Whittier, California.

Alejandro Alvarez Villegas, 32, is facing charges relating to suspicion of attempted murder, child endangerment, hit-and-run, and grand theft auto, according to the Whittier Daily News.

He was previously deported 11 times, according to immigration officials.

"Department of Homeland Security databases indicate Mr. Alvarez-Villegas is a serial immigration violator who has been removed from the United States 11 times since 2005," a spokesperson for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told KNSD-TV.

How badly was his wife injured?

Alvarez’s 34-year-old wife sustained injuries to her upper body and is in stable condition at a local hospital. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to reports.

The couple’s three children — ages 10, 8, and 5 — were in the home, located in the 7700 block of Milton Avenue, when the attack occurred, Whittier police spokesman Officer John Scoggins told the Whittier Daily News.

There were conflicting reports regarding whether the children witnessed the attack.

A neighbor called police and the wife was rushed to a hospital.

Alvarez fled the scene then got into an accident in Santa Fe Springs. After the accident, he abandoned his car and ran. Alvarez allegedly came across a vehicle with the engine running and decided to take it, Scoggins told the newspaper.

Where was he found?

The San Diego County Sheriff’s and Chula Vista Police departments found Alvarez in the 3100 block of Main Street around 2 p.m. Thursday. Alvarez was allegedly in a sport utility vehicle that was reported stolen in Santa Fe Springs.

“The suspect was parking the vehicle. He realized the officer was behind him. He rammed one of our undercover cars,” Chula Vista Police Lt. John English told the newspaper.

The sergeant in the police car was not injured, he added.
