‘SNL’ cast member says it wasn’t fair for Kanye West to hold people ‘hostage’ with pro-Trump opinions

"Saturday Night Live" cast member Kenan Thompson isn't happy that entertainer Kanye West expressed his pro-Trump beliefs on stage after Saturday's live show.

What did Thompson say?

In a Monday interview with NBC "Late Night" host Seth Meyers, Thompson recalled West's politically charged remarks, which came on the heels of Saturday's broadcast.

To Thompson, Meyers said, "There was a circus on Saturday. A Kanye West-led circus. ... For those who didn't watch, he did a song at the end of the show, then the show ended, but ... he brought the cast back on stage while he gave a political speech."

"We're all entitled to our opinions," Thompson began, but went on to say that West went "caca on people" with his remarks and bringing the cast back on stage to endure them.

Thompson, who was not on stage at the time, said he was very happy that he'd previously made the choice to avoid joining West on the stage for the show's send-off.

"Yeah, he voiced his opinion very loudly. For a long time," Thompson said. "And you know, we’re all entitled to our opinions ... I don’t know if that’s the moment necessarily to hold people hostage like that.

"As soon as [West] said 'Hey, join me onstage, everybody,' I was like, 'Oh, there goes the little cheese in the mousetrap.' It’s going down," he continued. "I felt so bad for those guys because it’s hard to stand there and not be able to, you know, debate somebody who’s going so far against, you know, your personal opinion as well and just stand there and take it."

What did West say?

West, who has been outspoken about politics and President Donald Trump in the past, brought up politics after the “Saturday Night Live” broadcast ended.

West, who was wearing a red "Make America Great Again" hat, said that he was bullied backstage for wearing his red hat.

“They bullied me backstage. They said don’t go out there with that hat on. They bullied me backstage,” West said. “If you want the world to move forward, try love. Thank y’all for giving me this platform. I know some of y’all don’t agree. But some of y’all be going at [Trump’s] neck a lot, and I don’t think it’s actually that helpful.”

West also went on to discuss the imbalance of liberalism in conservatism in Hollywood as well as the media.

In one clip, West said, “I wanna cry right now, black man in America, supposed to keep what you’re feelin’ inside right now … The blacks want always Democrat … you know it’s like the plan they did, to take the fathers out the home and put them on welfare … does anybody know about that? That’s the Democratic plan.”

He added, “There’s so many times I talk to a white person and they say, ‘How could you like Trump, he’s racist?’ Well, uh, if I was concerned about racism I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago.”
