Joe Scarborough tells Stephen Colbert that Trump won't seek re-election in 2020

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough believes that President Donald Trump won't run for re-election in 2020 because he's simply just not interested.

Stephen Colbert, however, has an interesting angle on why he believes Trump should seek re-election.

What are the details?

During an appearance on Thursday's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Scarborough — who appeared alongside "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski — said that Trump is just going to "cash out" instead of running another election campaign for 2020.

"Do you think there's anybody who would step up and challenge Trump in 2020?" Colbert asked.

Scarborough responded, "I think so, but I'll say it again: I don't think that they're going to have to step up to challenge Donald Trump, because I don't think Donald Trump's going to run for re-election. He didn't want to be elected president, he didn't think he was going to be elected president, he didn't even think he was going to get the Republican nomination. He's gonna cash out."

"I'm dead serious," he added.

Colbert responded by telling Scarborough that he doesn't particularly want Trump to avoid seeking re-election, because Colbert thinks it's important for America to do a course correction on its own.

"I’ll tell you why I don’t want it to happen," Colbert explained. "I think it’s important that the voters of America have an opportunity to say, 'Oops, my bad, we made a mistake there,' and correct themselves. And if Donald Trump doesn’t run, he takes away that corrective action of history and therefore, his presidency is whole and un-judged if he just doesn’t run again. 'I fixed it. I made it great again, goodbye.'"

What else?

Earlier in the interview, Brzezinski floated a list of people who she believes will make a 2020 presidential bid. Those people included former Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State John Kerry, and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif).
