Brave teen intervenes during break-in, saves mom from possible sexual assault, family from homicide
October 22, 2018
A 15-year-old Texas teen may have saved the lives of his mother and siblings after he reportedly stopped a break-in suspect from harming anyone during a harrowing Thursday night incident.
What are the details?
John Wayne Morris, 37, reportedly broke into an unnamed Robinson, Texas, woman's home on Thursday night.
The woman was home with her children when Morris reportedly attempted to sexually assault the woman in her home.
Robinson Police Chief Phillip Prasifka said that the woman's 15-year-old son walked in on the alleged incident and was able to restrain Morris with his arms around the suspect's neck until police arrived on the scene.
The teen's siblings then reportedly phoned police for help.
When officers arrived at the woman's home, two visibly upset teens were outside of the home and reportedly told responding officers that their brother was inside, holding Morris captive.
What else?
Morris reportedly had entered the home through an unlocked door and jumped on the woman, straddling her, when he saw her sleeping.
Prasifka said that Morris threatened the unnamed woman by "telling her that he had someone watching her children and that they would kill them."
"[The woman] stated that she was afraid to fight back because she was afraid that her children would be harmed," the chief explained, adding that the woman felt scared that Morris would sexually assault her and kill her children during the break-in.
Authorities arrested Morris at the family's home. Morris was taken to the McLennan County Jail and charged with a first-degree felony charge of burglary of a habitation, with intent to commit sexual assault.
Prasifka noted that Morris is not a registered sex offender.
The Waco-Tribune Herald reported that Morris remained jailed as of Friday, and reported that no bond information was currently available at the time of publication.
