Man pleads guilty to planning to flip Trump's limo with a forklift

Gregory Lee Leingang (Mandan Police Department)

In perhaps the dumbest assassination plot that ever resulted in charges, a North Dakota man has pled guilty to stealing a forklift with the intent to "flip" President Trump's limousine.

Gregory Lee Leingang, 42, was in federal court and entered his guilty plea on Friday on one count of "attempting to enter or remain in a restricted building and on grounds while using a dangerous weapon" as part of a plea deal reached with prosecutors. He had also been charged with "attempting to damage government property," the Grand Forks Herald reported.

The dangerous weapon in the charge is the forklift.

Apparently, when Leingang found out that the President would be in town on September sixth of last year, he concocted his plan. He stole a forlift and drove it onto the motorcade route.

"The intent was to basically try to get to the limo, flip the limo and get to the president and he wanted to kill the president," said U.S. Assistant State's Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell.

He fled the scene, however, after the forklift got stuck on a gate prior to any flipping. He has a prior criminal record, as well as some established mental health issues, you'll no doubt be surprised to hear.

The sentencing hearing will be on February 15. In the meantime, he is seeing a psychiatrist while in jail awaiting sentence. He may face up to 38 years in prison.
