Advertiser drops Ben Shapiro's show because he read their ad at a pro-life event

Did they not know he was against abortion?

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro is pro-life. He vocally opposes abortion. Anyone paying even a little bit of attention should be very clear about that. Quip, a toothbrush company that sponsored Shapiro's podcast, apparently hadn't been paying attention.

Quip announced Friday that it would no longer purchase advertising time on Shapiro's show after he read their ad during a podcast he recorded at the March for Life rally. Here's their statement, first reported by HuffPost:

"Our mission is to make good oral health more accessible to everyone, and podcast advertising is one way we're able to realize this. However, following one of our ads being read in a venue we did not endorse, we have chosen to discontinue our advertising relationship with this show. We are also taking steps to ensure all of our partners are aligned with our oral health mission and values."

The statement did not address exactly how Shapiro's pro-life stance contradicted Quip's mission to make oral health more accessible, nor did it clarify why it was previously comfortable sponsoring the show, on which Shapiro regularly expresses his opposition to abortion.

Shapiro's live show at the March for Life made headlines for a comment he made while refuting the argument that abortion lowers the crime rate; some say that "what has lowered the crime rate traditionally has been killing all the would-be criminals," Shapiro said.

"The argument, I guess, here, is that: Would you kill baby Hitler?" Shapiro said. "And the truth is that no pro-life person on earth would kill baby Hitler. Because baby Hitler wasn't Hitler. Adult Hitler was Hitler. Baby Hitler was a baby. What you'd presumably want to do with baby Hitler is take baby Hitler out of baby Hitler's house and move baby Hitler into a better house where he would not grow up to be Hitler, right? That's the idea."

As is often the case with Shapiro, his comments sparked significant backlash from liberals, some of whom attempted to criticize him for being more sympathetic to this hypothetical baby Hitler than to illegal immigrant children who arrive at the southern U.S. border.

Shapiro kept his reply to the backlash short and to the point: "Watch it for yourself," he tweeted, including a video showing the full context of his remarks. Watch below:
