Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blames death threats on ‘right-wing media’

Of course she does

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said the "right-wing media" is to blame for the rising death threats she says she receives on a daily basis.

What did she say?

In an interview with the New York Daily News, 29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez blamed conservative media outlets for the death threats.

"It's very clear that when right-wing media starts to heat up, that's directly correlated to the amount of violent targeted threats we get," she revealed. "There's clearly a correlation between the intensity of Fox News and Breitbart and all those folks and the amount of threats that we get."

The freshman congresswoman explained that threats have hit such a high that Capitol Police recommended that her schedule not be made available to the public. She also added that her office receives death threats "every day."

"It's a pretty regular thing, so we just have to be super vigilant," she said.

Anything else?

On Thursday, Time magazine reported that Ocasio-Cortez and her staffers are apprehensive each and every time they hear a knock at her office's door. The report — a profile on Ocasio-Cortez — also noted that Capitol Police have trained her team of staffers to perform risk assessments on office visitors.

For her part, Ocasio-Cortez said that she feels most comfortable, as well as safest, when she's in her Bronx, New York, home.

"I feel safest when I'm home, so that's the upside," she explained.

In the profile, Ocasio-Cortez also described one thing she misses from her "old" life: leisurewear.

"I miss being able to go outside in sweats," she said. "I can't go anywhere in public and just be a person without a lot of people watching everything I do."
